I always use acrylic paint as a background due to a simple reason- it's waterproof. Because I use ink pens on it afterwards, it has to stay dry as I draw on it. Otherwise it'd be quite messy and I'd end up spoiling some pens (it actually happened a lot by the time I used gouche... gouche is very cool, but never draw on it using pens)

I paint on standart watercolor paper with a small grain. It supports good big quantities of paint without bending too much. I paint randomly using a main color (this time green) mixing it with small portions of other colors to get a messy feeling. I mix the acrylics with quite a lot of water to get a lot of texture.

Once I'm happy with the texture I beguin painting "big dots" using different colors.

And then comes the alcohol. Not for "inspiration", but to get rid of the excesive paint and to make the texture a little warmer. Acrylics "melts" with alcohol a little bit, you have to insist, but it kind of gets rid.

I dry the whole thing using a hair dryer. It really is one of the main tools.

And now comes the pens fun! As you might already know, I have LOTS of pens... and I use them all. This is the part I enjoy the best. When I pick my pens and pencils and beguin drawing like I'm speaking on the phone, without paying much attention. It's funny how some of the pens I use the most, are the cheapest ones. I have stupid expensive pens that I almost never use.

The very first cloud.
